Cowboys 37 , Packers 27

Cowboys are now 11-1.

What a game! It ended up being a lot closer than you would have thought after the first half but I don't think we could have expected to blow out the Packers. I believe the Cowboys are the better team but I hope with this win if we meet again, it will be in Dallas. I would hate to play them in Green Bay.

Tonight they played well in most areas. It was definitely the Romo - T.O. night with a little Witten thrown in for good measure.

On another note, I don't like the NFL coverage. They were late many times returning to the action and Bryant Gumble referred to the Cowboys as either the Packers or Green Bay at least 3 times in the first 5 minutes.

It is late and I will sleep with a smile on my face tonight.

Tonights the Big Game

Tonight might be the biggest game the Cowboys have played in 10 years. This game could help propel the winner to the Super Bowl by giving them momentum and a leg up on securing home field advantage in the playoffs.

I am trying to savor these moments because you never know how long the sucess will last, just look at the Bears.

But, no matter how I try and just sit back and enjoy the game, I know I am going to be a little stressed.

I'm not even going to try a prediction because this game could go either way in my opinion.

Kitchen Nightmares

One of my favorite shows is Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares. In fact, I've watched it on the BBC long before it made its ways to the states.

While we don't eat out much, when we do it makes me look at restaurants differently. Tonight was an example.

We decided to try a restaurant that had been around for awhile but just opened a location by our house, Bayleys.

One of Gordon Ramseys pet peeves is a large menu with a variety of different food styles. They definitely had a variety but outside of breakfast nothing seemed too unique.

But, the biggest problem they had tonight was staffing. They had 2 people, yes count them, 2 people working. They had one guy who was host, waiter and bus boy and then another that was the cook. So, things were a little slow but I can't fault the people working because they were doing their best. The "host, waiter bus boy" was working is tail off and always had a smile on his face.

But, when the food came out I noticed that the boys' "grilled" cheese didn't even have the cheese melted. And then Shelley took a bite out of one and bit into something hard.

This restaurant's other location has been around for a long time and is very popular so they might have been just having a bad day. But, in our area, it is so competitive a restaurant doesn't get many chances and this one won't be getting a second chance with us.

The Day After Thanksgiving

We've created our own little tradition and that is the day after Thanksgiving is when we put up our Christmas decorations. This morning both boys woke up and were ready to start decorating the tree. They were both so excited you would have thought it was actually Christmas.

After decorating the tree, listening to some Christmas songs and having an overall good time, Seth proclaimed "this is the best day ever."

It was a good day.

We then went out and spent a couple of hours putting up lights in the bushes, along the sidewalk and down the driveway. They couldn't wait for it to get dark so they could see the result of their hard work.

It was a good day.

Cowboys 34, Jets 3

Thanksgiving has me a little off schedule so my Cowboys' post is a little late.

With the win over the Jets the Cowboys went to 10 -1 and this is the first time in club history they have ever been 10-1. That is hard to imagine with all of the success they have had in the past. So, we might be watching something special this year. The most wins the club has ever had in a season is 13 so they are just 3 away with 5 to play.

But, despite the very lopsided win I don't think they played that well. The Jets just weren't very good and we need to pick up our game if we are going to go very far.

Now, the next game against Green Bay is a big one. A win against them may insure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. We don't want to be going to Green Bay to play in January so we really need a win next Thursday.

A Day Off

I took today off but the only problem is I either forgot to tell Shelley or she didn't remember. If any of you are the betting type, I would put my money on the former.

So, since no one knew I would be home, the boys are at their grandmother's and Shelley is working all day. So, I've taken all the Christmas decorations down from the attic, put up the tree and now I sit in an empty house, blogging and watching A&E. Oh well, at least I'm not at work.

On a positive note, I got a text message from one of my employees saying they announced we could wear jeans for the rest of the year. Those that know me know I'm pumped about that. I'm just hoping this is that slippery slope and they will find it hard to take it away. I'm not holding my breath but one can hope.

If I don't get the opportunity tomorrow, I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

Chase wants to be Tony Romo

Today when the Cowboys' game came on Chase came in and announced he wanted to put on his Cowboys jersey. So, off he went with his mother to put on his #31 Cowboys jersey.

He returned with the jersey on and a football, wanting to play catch. So, in the living room, me and the 2 year old tossed the football during the Cowboys - Redskins game. What else could a father want?

Chase then announced, "I want to be Tony Romo." Again, since Romo just signed a contract for $67 million, what else could a father want? :-)

Cowboys 28, Redskins 23

The Cowboys are now 9 - 1.

Whew, that was a close one. But, I shouldn't have expected anything less from a Cowboys Redskins game. It never seems to matter what the records are or how good either team is, it is always a good game. Who can ever forget 1989 when the Cowboys were 1 - 15 and the single win was against Washington at Washington.

T.O. was amazing in this game and so was Romo. It looks like Romo is going to be breaking all of the Cowboys' single season passing records this year.

The defense struggled as did special teams. There was a missed field goal and they couldn't seem to stop their kick off returns.

But, they won and that is all that matters. I'm trying to savor the success this year because I know it can go as fast as it has come.

Now, it is time for one of my favorite days and that is Thanksgiving and the Cowboys.

A Lost 24 Episode

With the writers strike there is a chance that 24 will not be on this year. So, to fill that void here is a lost 24 episode from 1994.

Cowboys Action Shooting

This weekend I travelled to North Carolina to visit my brother and did something for the first time. I got to participate in a Cowboy Action Shooting Competition.

If you aren't familiar with Cowboy Action Shooting, it is like grown up cowboys and Indians. It is an actual shooting competition that is measured on accuracy as well as speed. But, the twist to it is that all of the competitors dress in period clothes and use period style weapons. Each competition involves shooting single action revolvers, a lever action rifle and a shot gun. The competitors along with dressing the part also choose an alias like "Cactus Jack", "Carolina Lead Foot", etc.

But, the really unique thing about the competition is the competitors. They were some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Being a first time shooter they were all very willing to help me. I didn't have all the necessary equipment but it didn't take five minutes to find people to loan me all that I needed. Now, being a newbie I did take some good nature ribbing. I didn't have any boots on so I was referred to as "sneaks" or "little brother" since I was a guest of my brother (I am the oldest but they didn't seem to care about that fact).

If you have the opportunity to check out one of these competitions, I highly recommend it. I'm sure you will make some wonderful friends and have a good time.

Cowboys 31, Giants 20

Big, Big Win!! The Cowboys are now 8-1 and fully in control in the NFC East. This win went a long way in solidifying the Cowboys as a force to reckon with. They are in control of the NFC East and if they playoffs were today they would have home field advantage.

Overall, it was a good win but the penalties have to be fixed. The disturbing thing is that they are dumb penalties. Unsportsman like conduct, taunting, etc. Those are unacceptable penalties.

Romo was again outstanding. He had the 1 interception but besides that he was mistake free.

The defense looked ok, but they have to get better at stopping the run.

T.O. had a big game and he seems to have matured.

What is up with Folk's kickoffs? He wasn't even getting them to the 10 yard line. I wonder if he is hurt.

Now, the Cowboys have 4 of their next 5 games at home so this is a big opportunity to widen the gap.

Heard Around The House

Tonight Shelley and I discovered a packaged of cookie dough that had been mysteriously opened and about half gone. We hypothized that the boys used their safety scissors to open the package.

Later, I came across Seth trying to find the cover for his scissors. I asked him if he had used the scissors earlier to open the cookie dough package "today." He replied, "no" and continued looking for the cap. A few seconds later he looked up at me and said "we did that yesterday."

----

We were in the car listening to a little Elvis when "In the Ghetto" came on. If you don't know the words, they go:

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries

Chase then asked "why did his mama cry?"

Later in the evening, Seth asked "why wasn't I born in the ghetto?"

Cowboys 38, Eagles 17

Any win is a good win but a win over the Eagles is always a little extra special. I think that is one thing that makes the NFC East so special is that there are some very good rivalries. I can honestly say I don't think there ever is a time I can cheer for the Eagles, Giants or Redskins unless somehow their winning benefits the Cowboys.

But, anyway, back to the game.

The Cowboys played well in all area. Romo had another good game as well as T.O. and Jason Witten. You have to love the play where Witten ran without his helmet.

Also, the defense looked good and they got good pressure on the quarterback. If they can continue to get that kind of pressure we will have some success.

But, there is no time to rest with a road trip to the Giants ahead of this week. This will be the biggest game of the season so far. A win will begin to help us seperate from the rest of the NFC but a loss will tighten things up.

Do Nothing Day

Today we had one of our "Do Nothing Days." This is where we do as little as possible and in the case of Shelley that includes bathing. Me and the boys only left the house once and that was to go to the grocery store.

While we all needed a day like this, there is one consequence of such a day and that is we all got a little "stir crazy." I don't know how many times I have yelled "Hey" or said something to the boys like "just quit touching each other."

This even affected Shelley and me. We broke into a shouting match over something that was really stupid. But, it may have been the first time the boys have ever seen us yell at each other because Seth ran into the living room and said "stop talking like that" and Chase stood between us and said "stop yelling."

It sure did convict me and I had to make sure I apologized to everyone.

Soccer Season is Over

We wrapped up our 3rd soccer season yesterday and this one was a big success. Seth's team finished 6 - 2, even though we don't keep score. Seth made a lot of progress this year and it was fun to watch him blossom.

He got more aggressive and his confidence grew with each game. I didn't know before becoming a father how hard it would be to watch your child struggle with self esteem issues so it is a real thrill to watch him come out of his shell.

Next up is karate, I think he will really enjoy it.
