Male Bonding

What is the best way for a father to bond with his 5 year old? Yes, I know everyone said "watching Dancing with the Stars."

I confess, it has become one of my guilty pleasures and now Seth has been sucked in.

In his own words, "Daddy, Dancing with the Stars is awesome!"

Cowboys 13, Buccaneers 9

This was an important win for the Boys. The defense looked impressive but the offense was still very average. Brad Johnson looks like a 40 year old quarterback and I'm afraid the Giants are going to have their way with him. But, a win is a win and we can worry about the Giants next week.

I might be becoming an Apple man

There are a lot of great rivalries in this world. Chevy vs. Ford, Coke vs. Pepsi, OU vs. Texas, Cowboys vs. Redskins, Democrat vs. Republicans are some examples. And usually no matter what side you fall on you seldom switch sides. Well, another great rivalry is Microsoft vs. Apple and I have always been a PC guy and I never really got what all this Apple talk was about.

But, then something happened. I bought an Apple product, the IPhone. I have been really impressed with its functionality, dependability and overall design. Another thing I have been struggling with is finding a browser I like. I've tried IE, Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome. I have had issues with each of them and so I finally tried Apple Safari and so far it has been the best of all of them.

So, now I am starting to drink a little of the Apple Kool Aid and I think the next time I am in the market for a new computer, I just might cross over and buy an Apple.

Josh Hamilton

Last night I went to another taping of Life Today and one of the guest was Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers.

Here's a picture

If you haven't heard his story it is an amazing story of faith and forgiveness. He was the number 1 draft choice, got $4 million dollars and was considered a can't miss prospect. He then became addicted to drugs and alcohol, got kicked out of baseball and didn't play for 3 years. Then through his faith he was able to get clean and this year was the American League leader in RBIs and his fellow players voted him the American League Most Outstanding Player.

He's also got a book I plan on checking out.

I'm Ticked

Our church has being doing a series called "Politicked" and I have to admit I am a little ticked. I haven't commented much during this political season and it is really because I don't know where to start.

All of this desire for "change" has clouded people's vision and they seem to forget that change is only good when it is positive change. For example, the Cowboys changed quarterbacks this past weekend and that wasn't a very positive experience.

Now, my political leanings are no mystery so it shouldn't be surprised that I am not a supporter of Senator Obama. But, the reason many are supporting Senator Obama is disturbing. Here is a list that I found of some of the reasons:

1. It will be historical.
2. He's smart. (Is he really?)
3. We can relate to him.
4. The Republican Party
5. The campaign he has run
6. He's a good speaker.

These are just a few but I never hear people talk about his character, his ability to lead or how his life experiences have prepared him to run the country. Plus, no body really seems to want to talk about his socialist policies of wealth redistribution. And when "Joe the Plumber" called him on it, the left leaning media did everything the could to attack Joe but they never really addressed the answer Obama gave to the question.

I think everyone has become blinded by this desire for change and I fear we may be heading down a path that could radically change our country into something we never intended.

Cowboys 14, Rams 34

This is the worst loss I can remember in a long time. This team is unravelling and I won't be surprised if they miss the playoffs. It maybe a knee jerk reaction but this team is horrible right now.

There is not one area you can look at and say is going well. They are playing terrible, the coaching is bad and there are a ton of injuries. Plus some very tough games are coming up.

This is a bad time to be a Cowboy fan.

State Fair

Yesterday we all made a trip out to the State Fair. This trip was a lot more successful than our last visit two years ago. The last visit was so rough we had to take a year off before making another go of it.

In our last trip, Seth was 3 and Chase was 1. Chase was too young so this was essentially his first trip.

But, two years ago, I was sure the best part for Seth would be the train musuem. At the fair grounds they have several trains that you can climb up in and tour and since Seth loves train we just knew this would be a hit. Well it wasn't. He cried and cried and refused to go up on any train. I was very frustrated.

Prior to us making it to the trains we had to pas Big Tex which is a 4 or 5 story cowboys that greets all the fair visitors. Again, I thought Seth would love Big Tex but again we literally had to run past him as our 3 year old screamed in horror.

Well, this year was much better. But, we did have another 3 year old with us and he experienced some fear. He too didn't like Big Tex while Seth had overcome his fear. We also made another trip over to the trains and Seth loved it and Chase was a little scared. But overall, they both were little troopers.

Things like visiting the State Fair never lives up to expectations for me but we did make some very nice memories and I'm sure we will be back next year.

Closer to the Start

Our church has just released its first all original worship cd. They wrote and performed all the songs on it and I have to say it is very good. We've been playing it in the car and the boys love it as well. The video below is their favorite song and I have to admit it is mine as well.

For more info go here.

Cowboys 24, Cardinals 30

The team that was the favorite to win the super bowl at the beginning of the season doesn't even look good enough to make the playoffs.

They are playing so poorly right now.

I don't have any more to say on the subject.

Throw Up

I don't think Shelley knew what she was getting into when we had two boys. At times she seems a little overwhelmed by all of the bodily noises and poop jokes.

Last night was another example. I'm not sure if it was what he ate or the fact that I had been tickling him and spinning him upside down or a combination of all of these, but all of the sudden Chase threw up in the living room floor. The vomit had barely hit the floor when he proclaimed, "I want a snack." He was unphased and just saw this as an opportunity to make room for more cookies.

I love my boys.

Cowboys 31, Bengals 22

It is hard to be excited about this win. While they won by 9, this game was way too close.

Romo has to start taking better control of the ball and quit turning it over. He was responsible for both of the turnovers today. The running game looked better and showed that we need to get Felix Jones more involved but it was the 2nd week in a row that the passing game was shut down. It looks like defenses have figured something out and Jason Garrett needs to make some adjustments.

The defense played ok, especially considering the pressure that the offense put them in.

Next week is a road game in Arizona and they better step it up.
